Sweet Emeline
You know that last stretch of Highway 1 northbound as you come into Santa Cruz, where the construction is going on and the road narrows and the traffic gets bunched up and slow and then it goes from that to three lanes and people start driving fast but they're still really bunched up but they're driving faster as they approach Highway 17 and the 'fishhook'!!!!!.....and then you see the Emeline Street Exit...your last chance...like a safety chute taking you to a slower, more relaxing scenic route along the frontage road...???
Wellll,
That's how my life feels right now...like that last stretch of Highway 1...except I can't get over to the exit!!
AND...an amusing side-bar...
On that same stretch of Highway 1 I was behind a large delivery truck driving for about two miles with its left blinker on and not changing lanes....when I was finally able to pass it,
I saw the logo on the side...
It was...
The California Grey Bears!!!!!
It really is a great comfort to know that no matter how hectic my life gets...I can still appreciate irony!!

A Post About...What...Huh?
Squirrel!
It's been keeping me from writing much lately...then my wife gave me a book called "Healing Through Writing"...which might as well be titled Neener Neener Neener, since with my affliction I was barely able to read the title!
At least I was able to remember it and write it here!!
I'm healed!!
(heavy sigh)
I'm healed!!
(heavy sigh)

Postscript:
The actual title of that book is "Writing As A Way Of Healing...How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives"
(whew)
I'm trying!

That Face
If you scroll down you'll see that picture of me that I posted on my birthday...I keep looking at that old picture of myself standing on the
front lawn of our house on Lincoln St. in my Mickey Mouse shorts holding
up a book, smiling and giving some half-assed wave to the camera. I was
probably 4 years old, and there is something about that smile...it's
not quite happy...at first I thought it was because I was facing into
the sun and just squinting, but the more I look at it, the more it looks
like I was not all that happy to be there taking a picture with
this stupid book! Forget the mouth, you can always tell a real
smile in the eyes.
Maybe I was just anxious because the sun was blinding me...take the picture already!
I seem to have that same strained smile on my face a lot lately.
My Mom did always say if you make that face...
