How, Indeed...

How am I ever gonna be me
How am I ever gonna be me, Lord
How am I ever gonna be me

When I'm not who I'm supposed to be
A mother's son, a father's boy
A brother's friend, a sister's joy
An uncle cool, a cousin true
And who knows a father too
A shy recluse who once shot in
A patriot, a citizen
How was I born a mystery
How am I ever gonna be me

How am I ever gonna do right
How am I ever gonna do right, Lord
How am I ever gonna do right and do what's good within your sight
Sometimes my best is good enough
Sometimes I bluff that I am tough
I've turned my cheek instead of fight
And made them wrong when they were right
If you help those who help themselves how comes the meek don't fare so well
And I have prayed with all my might
How am I ever gonna do right

How am I ever gonna be saved
How am I ever gonna be saved, Lord
How am I ever gonna be saved when I have lived a life depraved
I've worshiped money, murdered Cain
Used your names sometimes in vain
Worked on Sundays, rocked and rolled
Want it bad enough I stole
She came to me what was next door
It's not like we had met before
Oh tell me what else can I say
How am I ever gonna be saved

How am I ever gonna find peace
How am I ever gonna find peace, Lord
How am I ever gonna find peace
Will it be on a golden street with big parades and pretty girls
Cotton candy colored swirls
Waving fields of Springtime sun that war's been never waged upon
My lover's arms my first release
How am I ever gonna find peace

Thank God For Photographs

Dear Father I've got your photographs,
thank god for photographs , hip hip horray
Dear Father I know you love to laugh though

most of your photographs didn't seem that way

Dear Father can't let you go to sleep,
An I still can't forget you walkin around.
Dear Father you're starring in my dreams you're stealing all the scenes, where did you go?
My wandering mind, I stumble through time, I sing through the air,
I'll look for you there,

Dear Father I never got to say goodbye, I was singin on the River Clyde, and I didn't know,
Dear Father I see you dancing still and i think i always will till the day I die
Dear Father I feel your healing hands, as I fall asleep i can, plain as the day.

Dear Father you're in my refection now as I reach out and touch you now where did you go?
Dear Father I'm still curious when you still make me furious it was so long ago.
Dear Father I've got your photographs,
thank god for photographs , hip hip horray

Just Passing Through

We are passing this world on to our kids
From the day when they climb from their cribs
We'll try and teach them well, show them that they're loved
But in the end all we can do is hope our best was good enough
They'll witness how this life can be so beautiful and cruel
We can't shelter them forever but if we show them all the tools
They might leave this world in a little better shape than me and you
We are only passing through

Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through
Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through

We are watching this world from our living rooms
Near forty years since we walked on the moon
This big blue ball is shrinking and I don't know if that's good
But for better or for worse now this whole world's our neighborhood
And there's no place left to run to, to stay above the fray
We better learn to get along not just to get our way
Not only for each other but our children's children too
We are only passing through

Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through
Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through

And I wonder sometimes what will I pass on
How much can one voice do with just a song
Sometimes injustice and indifference are all that I see
But I refuse to let my hope become the latest casualty
So I'll sing of love and truth and try to practice what I preach
If I can't change the world, I'll change the world within my reach
What better place to start than here and now with me and you
We are only passing through

Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through
Passing through, passing through
We are only passing through
We are only passing through

Sing About It

If you get too worried
What you ought to do is sing
If you get worried
What you ought to do is sing
If you get worried
What you ought to do is sing

Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

If you get lost
What you ought to do is sing
If you get lost
What you ought to do is sing
If you get lost
What you ought to do is sing

Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

Sing about joy
Sing about love and hoping it lasts
Sing about your trouble
And it just might pass
Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

If you get broken
What you ought to do is sing
If you get broken
What you ought to do is sing
If you get broken
What you ought to do is sing
Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

Sing about your trouble and it just might pass

Sing about joy
Sing about love and hoping it lasts
Sing about your trouble
And it just might pass

Sing about your trouble and it just might pass
